LEGAL NOTICE United Way DATE: April 8, 2021 CONTACT: Amanda Wike, Executive Director awike@uwleeco.org, 815-284-3339 United Way of Lee County LEE COUNTY HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF STATE SET-ASIDE FUNDS UNDER THE EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER NATIONAL BOARD PROGRAM Lee County received word they should be awarded federal funds through the State Set-Aside process under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Program (ESFP). The next step is for the National Board to review and approve the Illinois ESFP Set-Aside Plan. The approval is made by a National Board which is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and consists of representatives from The Salvation Army; American Red Cross; United Jewish Communities; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.; and United Way of America. The program provides assistance for food, utilities and shelter to individuals and families in emergency situations who meet the federal eligibility guidelines. The expected amount for Lee County is $6,950 The Local Board is chaired by the United Way of Lee County and includes representatives from Lee County churches, non-profit and governmental agencies. The Local Board is charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the county. The Board is seeking applications from qualified service organizations (please see detailed list of qualifications below) serving Lee County. Those interested in applying can visit United Way of Lee County's website or contact our office to receive an application. Lee County has distributed Emergency Food and Shelter funds previously to Dixon Food Pantry, Lee County Council on Aging, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, Tri-County Opportunities Council, United Way of Lee County, and YWCA of Sauk Valley. These agencies were responsible for providing served meals, food pantry orders, and rent/utility assistance in Lee County. Eligibility to receive funds: Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local organizations chosen to receive funds must: 1) be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government, 2) have an accounting system, 3) practice nondiscrimination, 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/ or shelter programs, and 5) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.
