Messiah Lutheran Church of Sterling, Illinois was established in 1875. The congregation, founded on the deep roots of the Lutheran tradition, believes in the Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that all people live in a sinful state, separated from God, and unable to reach eternal glory on our own doing. We also believe that God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to be the solution to this problem. In living the perfect life, suffering and dying and innocent death, and rising on Easter morning, Jesus Christ conquered sin, death, and the devil. In doing so, He provided a means for salvation for all people – that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. And we believe that the Holy Spirit dwells within each of us, allowing us to grow in our faith towards God and love towards one another.
